Extended Family Sessions

I have had the pleasure of photographing several families lately…large families.  I wanted to share them with you and give you some tips as well if you are considering a family session of your own.

Coordinating a large family session can be a lot of work, but it doesn’t have to be.  Clothing choices can be made fairly simple by giving everyone a color scheme and encouraging them to coordinate without necessarily matching.  The other challenge is often the number of children involved.  It can be hard to get all of them smiling and looking at the same time.  I always work fast to try to keep boredom to a minimum.  Here are some of the recent “posed” family portraits I’ve captured.

Then, we break into smaller groups and capture siblings, all the boys, or other smaller family groups.  These can all hang together in a wall gallery and look amazing.

And, then I always try to capture some fun photos as well.  Here are a couple from the last few sessions.

I love to work with each family to design galleries or arrangements that can be hung in the home and cherished forever.

Beautiful Family Photography Session

I met Julie when she took the photography class I offer a few times a year.  I was thrilled when she called and asked me to photograph her family at their beautiful home.  Could this family be any more beautiful?

Are you a fellow photographer?  Check out the post I wrote for the Chic Critique Forum.

Almost Five

My sister-in-law and her adorable almost five family came by for a family/maternity/kid session all rolled up in one.  It was the first session in my new “location” (more about this soon!) and I loved it.  Green grass and trees everywhere.  The only challenge is finding enough shade to keep away that half sunlit half shade look that we photographers hate.

Little Lexi (Lexie?) will be born any day now and I can’t wait to meet her.  But it was fun to capture their last few days of just the four of them.

Luke wasn’t thrilled about smiling…but still managed to look adorable.  He was calm and pleasant but the only grin we could get out of him was a cheese!

Family Wall Gallery

Can I just share with you how much I love this family?  Kelly has become a dear friend of mine over the last few years and I can honestly say, I’m not sure what I’d do without her.  I was thrilled to photograph her family and we are going to be ordering this amazing wall gallery for her home.  When they have arrived and are up on the wall, I will definitely share more photos.  For now though, aren’t these great?

And…portrait clients, you may be lucky enough (like me!) to meet Kelly because she will working with me and helping clients at many portrait viewing sessions this year.  She’s fabulous.
